I've found that I have many activities that I often group together based on specific themes instead of grouping by math content. I will post those collections here in the theme section.
A Class Is Born
Graphing and measuring activities perfect for back to school.
Estimation Jars are an excellent way of getting students excited about mathematics. You can set up weekly estimation activities or use one of the letters and have students be in charge of bringing in the materials. Use a variety of round and square jars throughout the year.
Fall Leaves
Students can use leaf cutouts to sort by shape, color and size or use the leaves to make patterns or graphs. Use the tree workmat to create math stories or act out story problems.
Winter Holiday Games
Play Snow Flake Give and Take by rolling a die to add or remove snowballs from the board. Play with snowman tangrams or use this tree gameboard to play NIM. Use the hot chocolate workmat and marshmallows to create math stories or act out story problems. Stringing Lights and Tricky Tree are two fun problem solving activities.
Snow
Snowman Buttons and How Much Snow are two great problem solving activities.
Circus
Use animal crackers as a manipulative in this circus probability lesson. You can also act out story problems and reinfoce ordinal numbers by using animal crackers or teddy bear counters on this train workmat.
Pot of Gold is a Saint Patrick's Day game to reinforce counting on and counting back.
Additional theme activities can be found in these archived newsletters created specifically for the staff at my school.
